Hearts for Haiti

After January’s devastating earthquake in Haiti, UIndy students responded by organizing support for relief efforts. For example, UIndy’s Catholic Student Association and United Methodist Student Association led a fund-raising effort called Hearts for Haiti. The money was donated to the Catholic Relief Services and United Methodist Committee on Relief, both of which sent volunteers to Haiti. UIndy business students had raised money to attend an academic competition but redirected some of the proceeds to the Haiti relief efforts instead.

Her thousands of miles of travel included appearing at the Indianapolis 500, riding in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, and visiting wounded troops in hospitals in the U.S. and overseas, all while spreading a community service message—in keeping with UIndy’s motto, “Education for Service.”
