Super Bowl boon

A new athletics & recreation center will bring the spotlight to UIndy by serving as the NFC practice facility for the nation’s most-watched sporting event in 2012. The air-supported multipurpose dome will be large enough for a football field. It will open in 2011 and host intramurals, fitness activities, and athletic training, and an attached 20,000-square-foot support building will house offices, meeting rooms, training rooms, and lockers.

Dancing in Daytona

The UIndy Dance Team, aka the Crimsonettes, boogied their way into the National Dance Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona, Fla., placing fifth in the Challenge Cup and ninth in the hip-hop competition.

Catching Etchings

In the spring, UIndy’s Department of English published the 2010 edition of Etchings, the campus literary and fine arts magazine. Just days later came word that the ’09 issue picked up three awards from the Indiana Collegiate Press Association.

National champ

UIndy’s Jason Kegerreis recently became the school’s first novice national speech team champion at the national tournament in Kansas. A freshman communication major, he won first place in the Impromtu Sales category. Several other UIndy students also placed, says coach Audrey Cunningham.

Book ’em

UIndy students in a desktop publishing course crafted books for the writings of students from the Indianapolis Public Schools’ Center for Inquiry at School No. 2. The UIndy students selected the works to be published, helped the kids revise and edit, then designed and assembled the books.
