‘Little Rock Nine’ message resonates

UIndy’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day featured a keynote address and reception with civil rights legend Minnijean Brown Trickey. Just a teenager in the 1950s, she fought school segregation as one of the famed “Little Rock Nine.” Her heartfelt, compelling message urged students to work for peace and justice via nonviolence, a tactic she called “the greatest force on Earth.” She should know.

There’s no place like dome

UIndy got its first look inside the new Athletics & Recreation Center during a “Skybreaking” celebration. Singing the dome’s praises were Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee Chair Mark Miles, UIndy President Beverley Pitts, student government President Caitlin Deranek, and student-athlete Ryan Forney. The ARC will serve as the practice field for the NFC’s Super Bowl XLVI contender in February 2012.

The National Association for Campus Activities actually chose two UIndy videos for judging, and both were filmed by UIndy student Joanna Huff. Check ’em out!
