The spotlight’s on students

UIndy’s Theatre Department offers a rich mix of mainstage and black box shows, musicals, dinner theatres, and student-directed productions. Theatre majors have many opportunities to work onstage and backstage, often early in their student career. It’s not unusual to see freshmen in major roles in main season productions.

One of the few Indiana institutions with a theatre teaching major, UIndy also offers a Music/Theatre concentration, partnering with the Music Department.

Students land theatre scholarships and paid positions such as front-of-house manager and box office and costume shop opportunities. Nearly every play features student designs: set, makeup, costumes, props, and more.

UIndy theatre students have landed internships with theatres all over the city, including Indianapolis Civic Theatre, Indiana Repertory Theatre, and Theatre on the Square. The department helps keep things fresh by inviting professionals from the thriving Indianapolis theatre community as guest artists to teach, design, and direct.
