Taking the lead

What free time?

Junior Lawana Taylor, an Actuarial Science major from Gary, Indiana, is hard at work building her résumé and is serious about leadership. She’s active in Student Leadership Council, works at the Hub (the welcome center in the Schwitzer Student Center), and is a Risk Management intern at Raytheon Technical Services Company. The president of the Black Student Association, she was accorded the honor of introducing civil rights leader and alumnus Murvin Enders as keynote speaker for UIndy’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration in January. So what motivates this budding leader? Lawana credits mentors at UIndy who inform and inspire her to be involved. “I like this quotation,” she says. “‘Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.’”
