Music is medicine

Visitors to a new downtown hospital are being greeted with music by UIndy students, who volunteer to play the concert grand piano so that others can benefit from their talents.

“The partnership [with Eskenazi Hospital] is a music outreach,” says Natalie Covert of Indianapolis, a sophomore vocal music education major. “It allows us to share what we love with people in the city.”

The Eskenazi Health Music Fellows Program was developed by music faculty member Minju Choi and the hospital’s director of special projects. “I’ve been very pleased with the program so far,” says Choi. “Students gain valuable experience as artists and enhance the lives of people visiting the hospital.” The partnership will be exclusive to UIndy for the inaugural year.
