From service learning to spring term trips to a semester or year abroad, UIndy offers dozens of destinations to expand horizons.

At UIndy, you’ll enjoy year-round opportunities to gain valuable experience learning about other cultures, speaking a foreign language in a fully immersive environment and gaining a new perspective.

Students have explored Spain, England, Scotland, Ecuador, Haiti, Ghana and the Galapagos Islands on faculty-led, spring term educational trips during the month of May. Study abroad destinations are equally diverse, with students hitting the books in Ireland, the Czech Republic, Spain, England, Japan and New Zealand. Where you go is up to you!

Katie Budd, a senior with a double major in criminal justice and international relations, studied in Prague. She says she’s grateful for the travel experience, intercultural communication and gaining a deeper understanding both of U.S. history and of the European Union.

“It’s on my bucket list to visit every continent in the world, and I’m quickly adding more and more specific countries to the list. My next trip is to Japan,” Budd said.

UIndy also offers internships abroad. Amanda Richter, a junior exercise science/pre-occupational therapy major, will be working as an occupational therapist and physiotherapist for 12 weeks next
year in New Zealand.

Study abroad advisor Julie Kiefer says any major can study abroad. The key is to start planning early — and get used to stepping out of your comfort zone.

“There’s so much growth you can get from living in a culture overseas that you just don’t get at home. You can’t put a price on all that you learn from study abroad,” Kiefer said.
